I TALK TO GOD

(The pronouns me and I refer to you the reader)

Prayer is communication with God. It is speaking to Him and receiving a reply. It is a tremendous privilege for me to speak to my Creator and have Him reply to my wants, cares, needs, and to be able to ask for mercy and forgiveness. Learning to pray is necessary for a close walk with Jesus and to receive guidance from Him. He is my Lord and Boss so I must learn to communicate with Him and seek His will for my life.

A Prayer for Forgiveness

Adapted from Psalm 51.

Father in heaven.
Have mercy on me,
according to Your loving kindness.
According to the multitude of Your tender mercies,
blot out my transgressions.
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity.
Cleanse me from my sin.
For I know my transgressions.
My sin is constantly before me.
Against You, and You only, have I sinned,
And done that which is evil in Your sight;
That You may be proved right when You speak,
And justified when You judge.

You desire truth in the inward parts.
You teach me wisdom in the inmost place.
Purify me with hyssop, and I will be clean.
Wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
Let me hear joy and gladness,
That the bones which You have broken may rejoice.

Hide Your face from my sins,
And blot out all of my iniquities.
Create in me a clean heart, O God.
Renew a right spirit within me.
Don't throw me from Your presence,
And don't take Your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of Your salvation.
Uphold me with a willing spirit.
Then I will teach transgressors Your ways.
Sinners shall be converted to You.

Deliver me from bloodguiltiness,
O God, the God of my salvation.
My tongue shall sing aloud of Your righteousness.
Lord, open my lips.
My mouth shall declare Your praise.
For You don't delight in sacrifice,
or else I would give it.
You have no pleasure in burnt offering.
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit.
A broken and contrite heart, O God,
You will not despise.

Thank you Father for Your forgiveness.
Thank You for Your Son who died that I might live.
Now Father, I pray to you in the name of Jesus. Amen.

A Prayer of Praise and Thanksgiving

Adapted from Colossians 1:13-23.

My Heavenly Father, I give thanks to You, for You made me fit to be a partaker of the inheritance of the saints in light. You delivered me out of the power of darkness, and translated me into the Kingdom of the Son You love. Father, I thank You that in Jesus I have my redemption, the forgiveness of my sins.

I thank You and praise Your name for Your Son who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation, for by Him were all things created, in the heavens and on the earth, things visible and things invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things have been created through Him, and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things are held together.

He is the head of the body, the assembly. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead that in all things He might have the preeminence. For all the fullness was pleased to dwell in Him and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, whether things on the earth, or things in the heavens, having made peace through the blood of His cross.

Father, I thank You that although in past times I was alienated from You and Your enemy because of my evil works, that now You have reconciled me in the body of His flesh through death, to present me holy and without blemish and blameless before You.

Father, help me to continue to be established and firm in my faith in You. Strengthen me so I will not be moved from the hope of the Good News, which I have heard and received and believe. Thank You for this Good News of Christ living, dying, and returning from the dead to take away my sins. I praise You and thank You for Your Son. In His name I pray. Amen.

But as for me, I am like a green olive tree in God's house. I trust in God's loving kindness forever and ever. I will give you thanks forever, because you have done it. I will hope in your name, for it is good, In the presence of your saints. Psalm 52:8,9 WEB
